Year 3 have been making rainforest shelters. They had to design a shelter to fit one child which could withstand Mrs Young's watering can! They investigated different types of shelters and designed their own. They had wood, nails, plastic, material, cardboard, branches and string available to them.
They found that joining the materials was very testing and some groups had to re-think their design. When they were finished we took them into the playground and tested them by pouring a watering can full of rain over the shelters. Most stayed pretty dry but some children became rather damp.
Some serious planning going on.

Today Year 3 visited the Wildlife Park for Rainforest Magic 2014! We took an imaginary journey to the rainforest and held lots of different rainforest artefacts. We also tasted and smelt some rainforest fruits. Some visitors made an appearance in the classroom and we were able to touch a hissing cockroach, a millipede, giant african snails and' Slinky' the snake.
The sun shone and we were able to visit all the animals in the park. We had a great day out and learnt a lot about the rainforest in readiness for our topic next term.
