What is Nurture?
In the Heron Room our intention is to combine elements of both home and classroom. Some children find the school day too hard, too long and overwhelming. As a result, they may be quiet, noisy, lonely, confused, struggling and in need of extra support. The main role of the Heron Room is to provide this kind of support. All children enjoy spending time in the Heron Room at some point of their school life at Ballacloan, where we focus on developing social skills and ensure we are an integral part of a nurturing school.
The Aims of the Heron Room:
To have a predictable, calm and purposeful environment and timetable, free from curriculum pressures.
To develop self-esteem and social skills.
To develop relationships between adults and children, building trust, confidence and reliability.
To develop responsibilty for self and others. To help children learn appropriate behaviour.
To help children learn to make decisions and wise choices through understanding the consequences of certain ways of behaving.
To work in partnership with parents and teachers so as to achieve consistency of approach at home and school.
To provide on-going assessment.
