Open afternoon/reports - Murray’s Road (details for Ballaquayle in a future letter).
Your child’s report will be available from next Friday (22nd June). We are inviting parents to come into school between 2.00 - 4.00pm to collect the report and look through your child’s work with him/her. Please could you collect your child from the classroom together with his/her work and school report. Tables will be set out in the hall for you to use. Please return books to the classroom when you have finished. Children may be taken home, if you wish, as you finish looking at their work, once you have informed the class teacher. If you are unable to visit, we will send the report home with your child on Friday afternoon. If you wish to, please comment on one of the reports in the space provided. All reports need to be signed and returned by Monday 2nd July. There will be a second copy in the report envelope for you to keep.
Each year we carry out a questionnaire to find your views on a range of aspects of the schools. Each report envelope will have a questionnaire which we hope you will complete during your visit to the Open Afternoon. We are numbering the questionnaires for a prize draw at the end of Monday afternoon (25th June). The winning number will receive a bottle of champagne! Please put your completed questionnaires in the box provided in the hall. We really appreciate this feedback as it helps us to know what you feel is working well and where we can improve. We will inform you of the results of the questionnaire and the measures we will take to address any issues raised. Thank you.
Murray’s Road Jubilee Summer Fayre
Pupils and parents from both school sites are welcome to join our Summer Fayre next Tuesday evening held in Murray’s Road playground and school hall.
I am delighted to inform you that the winner of the logo design for our new school uniform is Robyn Duke in Year 5. The drawing was chosen by Mrs Raina Chatel who was a governor at both Ballaquayle and Murray’s Road Schools over many years.
School uniform with logos, reading wallets and home bags may be ordered through the school offices. An order form is attached to this letter. Orders may be placed with payment and the suppliers will have the items with us hopefully by the end of term. Any uniform without a logo may be purchased from any outlet.
Murray’s Road site - start of the school day
Could I remind parents that the school does not take responsibility for children’s safety in the playground until 10 minutes before the start of the school day. We have noticed children arriving in the playground as early as 8am which is a cause for concern. On very wet days staff have agreed to open the playground door at 8.40am and the children will be supervised in the school hall until it is time for them to go to their classes. Infant children should not be left in the Ballaquayle playground unattended before school as there is no playground supervision. Parents should wait with their children until they can be handed over to staff in the classrooms.
At the end of the school day at Murray’s Road the playground door will remain open until 4pm in case children need to return to school for any items. Could we ask that the children are collected promptly from the playground or leave the playground alone at 3.30 if permission has been granted for this.
There has been concern expressed at children running across the lane entrances on either side of the school and not looking out for traffic. Parents are asked not to wait for pupils in their cars in the lanes either side of the school as this creates a hazard for others.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Murray’s Road - late book/log book
As from next Monday (18th June) parents will be asked to record children’s arrival time and reason for lateness if they arrive after 9am. If parents are not in attendance, office staff will complete the book with the pupil.
If children are taken out of school during the day for eg doctor’s appointments, parents are asked to sign their child out then complete the entry when the child is returned to school. Both the above records are crucial for safety reasons.
Could I remind parents that children should not bring mobile phones to school. If a pupil needs to contact a parent the office staff will do this on behalf of the pupil.
Scholastic Book Fair
Ballaquayle School hall has a Scholastic Book Fair on display until Friday 22nd June. Books may be purchased before and after school each day. Book choices are suitable for pre school, infants and juniors.
Could we ask that pupils do not bring their own footballs to school as this is causing some upset. Both school sites now have plenty of equipment for children to use at breaktimes. Thank you.
Y6 educational visit
Could I correct a date error on the information letter sent out to Y6 parents. The educational visit is on 18th June (not May). Apologies.
As both school sites are aiming to be healthy schools could I ask parents to select items other than sweets and chocolates for packed lunch boxes. Children should not bring fizzy drinks to school.
Y3 Rainforest fundraising
We would like to thank parents for generously supporting two worthwhile fundraisers. Y3 pupils raised £147.50 at their recent Rainforet afternoon which enabled them to purchase and protect for the future one and a half acres of rainforest.
Ballaquayle/Murray’s Road Teamtastic stalls - Pumps 4 Kids
The group raised £200 to support children with diabetes.
Well done to both groups of pupils for their hard work and commitment in organising these events.
Y6 Venture Centre week
Mr Kelly and Miss O’Reilly have arranged a Y6 parents’ meeting for those parents who have children going to the Venture Centre (9th - 13th July). The meeting will be next Thursday (21st June) in the school hall. Childen are welcome to attend.
Y6 Transition Meeting
On the 27th June, 2.45 - 3.30pm Mrs Burnett will be bringing some Y7 pupils from Ballakermeen to Murray’s Road School to talk to the Y6 pupils in the school hall about life at secondary school. They will also answer any questions our pupils may have. This meeting is appropriate for children going to either of the two secondary schools.
Y6 parents are welcome to attend this meeting and may also pose their own questions. If you would like to attend please complete the slip at the end of this letter so that we can make seating arrangements.
Could I remind parents that a week’s notice is required if children wish to change from packed lunches to school dinners or vice versa. Many thanks.
