    Dear Parents,

    Valentine Disco

    Thank you to everyone who helped to organise and run our Infant and Junior Valentine Discos.

    The two events were very enjoyable and successful. We were able to raise £925 towards our

    Junior PlayBin.

    World Book Day

    On Friday 8th March the infants and juniors will be celebrating World Book Day. We are

    asking the children to dress up as their favourite character from a book and bring the book

    into school to share with everyone. Each child will receive a £1 book token towards a book

    purchase. We will be having visitors in school to read across the day.

    Andrew Barton Photographers will be in both schools that day to take photographs of the

    children with their books. These will be available for purchase from 3pm-4.15pm in the infant

    school hall and junior library. 6’’x4’’ print in a mount for £5. Additional copies may be

    ordered.

    School Council

    Their first meeting will be at lunchtime on Thursday 28th February and will continue to meet

    on a fortnightly basis.

    Year 6 Sex Education

    This half term, (4th and 11th March) as part of the National Curriculum in Science and IOM

    Department of Education and Children policy, Year 6 classes will be covering the aspects of

    growing up, puberty and reproduction, along with feelings and relationships.

    We feel that these lessons will be of great benefit to all pupils. As well as learning about

    these issues there will be a chance for pupils to ask questions in the lessons. Where this is

    appropriate, there will be a chance to provide straightforward answers to ensure that

    children receive information which is as accurate and age appropriate as possible.

    If you have any questions then please contact the Headteacher or Mrs M Keary, Advisory

    Teacher for Healthy Futures (including Sex and Relationships Education) on 693840.

    As a parent/carer you have the right, either to withdraw your child from these lessons or to

    allow them to take part, but you must inform the school of your decision.

    If we do not receive a reply from you by Thursday 28th February, we will assume that

    consent has not been given, and your child will not take part in these lessons.

    PE Kit for juniors

    Please could parents ensure all junior children have navy shorts, yellow or red tee shirts and

    black pumps to wear for indoor PE lessons. Thank you

    Douglas Borough Council Daffodil Competition

    Hopefully you have all been looking after your daffodil bulbs ready for judging. Remember

    the judges are looking at how well your daffodils have grown but also how creative you have

    been in designing a structure around your flowerpots or decorating your pots.

    Graham Newsome (Nursery Manager) and a Councillor will attend the Infants site on

    Wednesday 27th February in the afternoon and the Juniors on Friday 1st March in the

    morning. Please bring your daffodils, clearly marked with your name, to your classroom on the

    above dates.

    They will judge each class and pick a winner for each class, the winner from each class will be

    given an easter egg and a certificate will be printed out at a later date (approximately 2

    weeks after the judging). They will take a photo of each class winner with their daffodil in

    order that they can then print all the photos and judge the Best in School. The Best in

    School will be invited to attend the Council Chambers at the Town hall where they are hoping

    to arrange for the Mayor to hand out the prizes.

    The photos taken of the best in class will be displayed on display boards in the Council

    Chambers on the prize giving day and they will be given to the teachers to give to the pupils

    !

    at the end of the prize giving. Each school winner will be given an easter egg, a certificate

    and a cup they can keep.

    The overall school winner will also be announced at the prize giving and they will receive 2

    cups which can be displayed at the School for the following year. The School will also receive

    a £100.00 voucher. One of the cups and the voucher have been very kindly donated by

    Scottish Widows. The winner will also receive a cup they can keep and a certificate. There

    are also prizes for second and third place – they will each receive a certificate and a cup they

    can keep.

    They would also like to take photos of the winners on the prize giving day – these photos

    would be used on their website and they will also go into the press.

    Reception Parents Invitation to Lunch

    During the two weeks commencing 4th March, Reception parents are invited to come to

    school at 11.30am to work alongside their child and join them for lunch. If you are unable to

    attend personally, please invite a family member to take your place. Lists will be up in each

    classroom from today for you to indicate the day you wish to come and let us know if you

    would like to order a school dinner (adult lunch is £3.45) or bring your own packed lunch. This

    has been a successful project for the last three years which we are hoping to continue to

    offer on an annual basis. Due to the limited space available in the classrooms and lunch hall we

    are only able to offer one place for a family member for each child. Please could parents

    arrive at 11.25am to be taken to their child’s class. Thank you.

    Friends of Scoill yn Jubilee

    The next meeting of the Friends of Scoill yn Jubilee will be on Wednesday 27th February at

    9am in the infants school staffroom to plan an Easter Eggstravaganza. Everyone welcome!

    Year 6 AP3 Forms

    Just a reminder that we need to have all AP3 forms returned to the school office to support

    the transition process to secondary school. Thank you.

    Infant Packed Lunches

    The dinner teachers have requested that if your child has difficulty eating sandwiches with

    crusts please could these be cut off at home so that children can be encouraged to eat more

    of their lunch. Thank you.

    Coats

    Could I just remind parents that children need to have warm coats (plus hats and gloves if

    possible) for when they are outside at break times, as the weather can be very cold at the

    moment.

    How to Help Your Child Sheet

    Now that all sheets have gone out to parents please could we ask that parent and child

    comments are written on one of your sheets and returned to school to support our teaching

    and learning practices. Thank you.

    FILMCLUB

    JUNIORS

    The next Filmclub for juniors will be on Friday 1st March in the school hall. The film is

    ‘Brave’ (PG Certificate), finishing at 4.30pm. All children who request to attend will be

    accommodated. To save any confusion we will send an acceptance slip home to ensure you

    know we have received your form. Please complete the form at the end of this letter if your

    child wishes to attend.

    YEAR 2

    Filmclub for Year 2 will show Matilda (PG Certificate) on the same afternoon. All Year 2

    children who apply may attend. Children attending Filmclub can be collected at 4.15pm from

    Mrs Wainwright’s classroom. All Year 2 children not attending Filmclub should be collected

    from Miss Gray’s classroom door. Please complete the slip at the end of this letter.
