Welcome to Woodland Class
This half term we are continuing with our topic 'All creatures great and small'. We will now be concentrating on small animals and mini-beasts.
We have looked at large land animals first mainly in Africa and Australia. We learned about the story of Noah's Ark, made a super wall display to tell the story and have made a giant 'Elmer the elephant'.

We welcomed Mr Roberts from the meteorological office to talk to us about the weather.
Last week the Year One children enjoyed making jam sandwiches. They then wrote some great instructions on how to make a jam sandwich back in the classroom.
We had great fun on our rainy day last Wednesday. Here are a selection of photographs showing puddle jumping, rolling on the grass, exploring rain with vehicles and the mud kitchen!

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas! The children have come back to school ready to learn and are enjoying our new topic "Traditional Tales". This week they have made and tasted porridge, written 'sorry' letters and enjoyed acting out the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

We welcomed Mr. Broadbent from Sensory Support to Hawthorn Class yesterday. He told us all about how our eyes see and how people with sight problems can be helped. Here we are trying on special glasses which mimic eyesight problems.
We used our sense of sight, hearing, smell and touch on our sensory walk in Silverdale Glen. We had a lovely time in the mud and puddles!

Thank you to all the parents who supported the "Pizza Cafe" this afternoon. We have learnt a lot of news things by writing invitations, making pizzas, setting tables and serving food. Here are some pictures of our cafe.
We are looking forward to hosting our 'Pizza Cafe" on Thursday at 2pm in the school hall. All parents should have received a personal invitation from their child, please make sure you return the reply slip by Tuesday. Thank you.
Last week we enjoyed making tomato soup, the potatoes, onion and tomatoes were all grown in the Isle Of Man. The imported ingredient was some garlic from France. Most of us thought it tasted good, a few of were less keen!

We are looking forward to welcoming back 8 Year One pupils and 16 Reception pupils. We will be working hard to get to know each other in the first few weeks. Our topic will be "Where does our food come from?"
