Here at Ballasalla we have a small but active PTA, which exists to help all pupils at our school, by fund raising for all sorts of equipment which will benefit as many students as possible. Every Parent or Guardian with a child at Ballasalla School is automatically a member of the PTA, Grandparents and Friends of the School can become members too. Meetings are usually held once or twice a term straight after school, they are very informal and new ideas are always welcome.
We are a registered charity and our main aim is t raise money and to organise social events. Our Annual General Meeting is in November each year where candidates are invited to stand for election to the official posts.
A popular event of the school year is the Rushen Silver Band Christmas Carol Evening. This acts as an excellent start to the festive season and is always well attended. In February we usually have a School Disco for the pupils. When the nights become warmer we have organised a Treasure hunt and BBQ, which is a great get together. Our biggest fund raising event of the year is the Summer Fair, which is held on a Friday evening and includes various displays, fancy dress competitions and all the usual stalls, such as cakes, face painting, bric-a-brac, Bouncy Castle, coconut shy, BBQ and refreshments. Social events include Bingo Nights and Beetle Drives.
All our events are well attended, but we are always on the look out for more helpers and people to come to the meetings with fresh ideas and a willingness to take part.
