For most of the last century there were two main operators of stage carriage bus services on the Island.
"Isle of Man Road Services" - which ran red-coloured buses throughout the Island.
"Douglas Corporation Transport" which ran yellow buses within Douglas only, with one 'extended area' route to Port Soderick.
Isle of Man Road Services was actually part of the Isle of Man [steam] Railway Company, and along with it, and the Corporation buses, became government-owned in 1976.
The organisation continues today under the name of 'bus vannin'.
