The Isle of Man Department of Education and Children awards three certificates for achievements in Manx Gaelic:
Teisht Chadjin Ghaelgagh - General Certificate in Manx (Grades A*, A, B, C, D, E, F)
The examination for the TCG award is written and marked in consultation with CCEA and is designed to be equivalent to a UK GCSE Modern Foreign Language award. The specification for the award is based on the CCEA GCSE in Irish award. The examination covers the four key areas of Speaking (30%), Writing (30%), Reading (20%) and Listening (20%).
Ard Teisht Ghaelgagh - Advanced Certificate in Manx (Grades A*, A, B, C, D, E,)
The ATG award is designed for native second language speakers and advanced learners, and is designed to be equivalent to a UK (A2) A Level Modern Foreign Language award. The specification for the award is partly based on the CCEA A Level Irish award. Final grades are based on the results of two sets of examinations, the first set, ATG1, coming at the end of the first year, and the second set, ATG2, at the end of the second year.
Ard Teisht Ghaelgagh AS - AS Level Certificate in Manx (Grades A, B, C, D, E,)
A stand-alone award is available for students opting to only take the ATG1 examinations. This award is called the ATG AYRN 1 award and the certificate clearly states that it is UK AS Level equivalent.
