There are many ways you can travel to school. Some students live close by and walk to school, others get a lift from their parents. Dedicated buses are available to take students to and from school each day. We even have our own bus stop!
This is 20 minutes each morning. The register is taken, then you will undertake activities with your Tutor. On a Monday you will have an assembly during this period.
Lessons last 50 minutes and are held by specialist Teachers in different rooms around the school. In some subjects you will have double lessons. Although the school is big, there are lots of easy to read signs to help you find your way around. We will also provide you with a map.
All students get a planner. This is where you can record your homework and timetable for each day. A typical day at Ballakermeen for a Year 7 student is as follows:
Lunchtime is split across two periods. Years 7, 9 and 11 have their lunch first during period 5. Everyone else has a lesson. Years 8, 10, 12 and 13 have their lunch during period 6, Year 7, 9 and 11 students are in a lesson at this point. Staff will be available at lunchtime to make sure you get your lunch and have plenty of time to eat it.
On a Friday some of our lessons are 45 minutes long and start at different times. This is because you stay in tutorial until 9.35 so you can have a PSHE lesson.
